At its heart, this is a memoir about seeing.
For fifty years, I stood behind a camera, always rolling.
It took me farther than I ever imagined.
From feature film sets and Super Bowls to prison yards, remote villages, and projects around the world.
The camera opened doors. It also taught me that being inside didn’t mean I saw everything.
I met presidents, prisoners, celebrities, survivors, athletes, scammers, and people whose names most of us will never know.
I thought I was filming their stories.
Only after I put the camera down and started writing did I realize I had also been living my own.
This is what I saw when I finally looked back.
